Josep Maria Blanc Refuge

The Josep Maria Blanc refuge is located in Lleida province, within the National Park of Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici. This refuge is located in the Peguera Valley at 2350 meters of altitude in a beautiful natural setting surrounded by the waters of the Tort-Trulló and the Negre de Peguera lakes.

How to get to the Josep Maria Blanc Refuge

You have several options to get to this beautiful area from Espot:
• Walking Route from Espot through the Peguera Valley
• Route with 4×4 taxis from Espot

Walking route from Espot through the Peguera Valley

We leave the car in the village, we enter the old town until we reach the road that leads to the tracks. We walk along the shore to the left, until at a curve, before crossing the Peguera river, we find a small road marked with the track towards the refuge ascending through the valley of the Peguera river.

From there we started to ascend along the road and with the riverbed on our left. The first section is very steep, in half an hour we will have beautiful views of the town of Espot.

After an hour we will arrive at a leafy area of a beautiful green, there we can photograph beautiful waterfalls, later the valley is not pronounced and opens to a flat area where the torrent runs right by the road without any unevenness.

We return to climb steeply among vegetation and beautiful waterfalls, at two hours we will arrive at l’Estany de Lladres.

From here it continues climbing, in this case through the forest track, it has no loss. It can be hard and monotonous this section always ascending, and more if we are willing to see the refuge and its surroundings.

In total walking from Espot to the refuge must be between stops, photos etc … about 4 hours up. The download is obviously done in less time and more if we no longer have more photos to do 🙂

Route with 4×4 taxis from Espot

You have several options of different prices (2019) on the web of the taxis you have more information updated, minimum 6 people and the returns are always on the same day of upload:

C) Single-way Espot-Estany Negre / free-walking downhill
21,50€ adults / 19€ -12years / 19€ dogs

What are we going to find?

Once we reach the top we will be fascinated by the views. First we will find the Estany Tort de Peguera and that of Trulló with the refuge located where, before constructing the dams, the two ponds were separated, beautiful.

If we continue on we will arrive at l’Estany Negre, the deepest of the park (70m), another beautiful area worth visiting, but you have to descend to access its shore. A footbridge of trunks will allow us to cross the river towards l’estany de la Coveta. In this way it is ascending we will have magnificent views to l’estany Tort i Trulló and to be able to make the typical photo where the refuge surrounded by water is perfectly distinguished.

If you are in the area all day you know that in the refuge you eat very well and are very attentive and pleasant.

In short, one of the least frequented areas of Lleida province, in the National Park of Aigüestortes and worth knowing.
